A thing or two about Yishi Huang : Andrea Limon & Jenny Lee

There hasn’t been such a turning point for Yishi Huang but there’s one closest to it and another turning point that is foreseeable. Born in Fujian, China on September 2nd of 1995 Yishi was raised and spent half of her life time in China.

At the age of 9 Yishi broke her tooth while climbing a window with her cousins, she was fearful that her tooth will never grown back again, the dentist had to replace her fallen tooth. When she was 12 years old she started Junior High School and that’s where she met  most of her friends, that later on wanted to spend as much time as possible with her before she moved out of china and into America.

Yishi’s friends took her to Night Markets. Night Markets are street markets, some of the most common things in a Night Market are leasures,shopping, and eating. The most interesting thing about these Night Markets is that they are opened air and mostly on the outside streets. Yishi’s friends went to these Night Markets constantly, Yishi shopped around and bougth some things, she needed to remember her friends.

One of the greatest things that she remembers and misses from China is the close community in which she used to lived in. Back in China, Yishi’s home, she often worked during the day, but in the night her siblings and neighbors will always gather around infront of their homes, they would bring out chess boards, tables, food, drinks and gather around together, almost like a big family, to have conversations. Yishi remembers playing with her friends hide and seek, and telling stories to one another, the ladies would often be talking. Overall, that’s one of things she missed a lot.

Yish’s life made a a very sudden change of direction when her father got Yishi a visa and a permanent reisdency card, giving Yishi the opportunity to live and enjoy a Democratic country to the fullest extent as possible. Yishi’s goal when she moved into the United States was to learn english, she was afraid that not knowing the english language was going to prevent her from making new friends.

She has an older brother and younger sister. After graduating John Bowne High School with awards such as Advanced Regents Diploma and GPA (85+) award, she is an upcoming freshmen to CCNY who wishes to major in Nursing. She also wishes to speak English fluently and be able to communicate with others.
